So, the risk of someone giving up potentially $1 million, $3 million, or $5 million like that only to have the coin potentially get lost in circulation or even destroyed by careless hands is not really charitable in the overarching scheme of things. There’s a very good chance that even if someone spent, say, a 1913 Liberty nickel that nobody who encountered it would recognize its value! As much as we wish everyone in the country - the world - would read this article, the fact of the matter is most people don’t really know anything about collectible coins. And that’s not being said out of cynicism - it’s just a logical point. There’s basically no chance that someone who owns these coins is going to philanthropically drop one of these pieces into circulation to give another person the chance of striking it rich like that. Maltese falcon yacht youtube9/12/2023 ![]() The three-masted schooner is one of the biggest sailing yachts on the planet and she was the first to incorporate the now renowned ‘Falcon Rig’, which has a classic square-rigger appearance but is twice as efficient as its predecessors, leading the yacht to be lauded a triumph in design and innovation. MALTESE FALCON is a forerunner in yacht design. The 88m 2006 Perini Navi-built sailing yacht MALTESE FALCON is available to charter and is ready to show off the results of her extensive 2016 refit. Maltese Falcon arrived in the shipyard at the end of October and will remain until the end of May, when the 88m yacht will be available for chartering in various cruising locations. The award-winning sailing yacht, MALTESE FALCON is available for charter, offering sublime luxury aboard a revolutionary queen of the seas With Lusben’s help, we’ll be ready in June to welcome our customers and make their holiday on the water an unforgettable experience.” For both us and the owner company, working with the shipyard meant having the confidence that all our requests would be handled promptly and professionally. The work we carried out in synergy with their team was incredible. His words were echoed by Pierfrancesco Cafaro, the skipper of Maltese Falcon: “I’ve had the chance in the past to appreciate Lusben and the services they offer, which is why I was happy to collaborate with them again. It was a great privilege to work on a boat like the Maltese Falcon, but the congratulations really go to the whole team coordinated by site manager Alessio Centelli for the great job done,” said Gianni Paladino, commercial director, Lusben. “We couldn’t have made it through to this technical launch, while ensuring the high standards of quality we want to offer Lusben customers, had it not been for our professional team’s expertise in tackling such a complex project. Lusben managed a delicate refit operation, with challenging delivery times that has not only improved the aesthetics and comfort of the yacht, but also returned it to the owner company boasting better performance and more environmentally friendliness, as a result of reduced fuel consumption and emissions achieved by upgrading the on-board systems. The work commissioned also included routine maintenance. The teak deck was also replaced and the interiors refurbished to offer guests an even more welcoming, elegant and comfortable night area, plus a fully appointed galley to serve them lunch and dinner. Another big job was repainting the entire hull in its distinctive ‘Perini blue’ colour, which requires special working conditions because of the chemical and physical characteristics of the paint. Once the yacht was in the new floating dock, Lusben’s team of professionals began the refit project itself, which involved a long list of operations, from maintaining the on-board systems – generators, main engines, propellers – to work on the iconic mast-handling system, which was a huge challenge given its incredible complexity. Before the refit itself, major work had to be performed on the Livorno yard’s floating dock, with a special system designed and built to accommodate the yacht’s 6m draught and hull shape. ![]() ![]() Lusben has taken on a complex operation in terms of the facilities and equipment needed for the refit of this highly distinctive sailing yacht. ![]() The types are ocean-ocean, ocean-continent, and continent-continent.Īt an ocean-ocean convergent boundary, one of the plates (oceanic crust and lithospheric mantle) is pushed, or subducted, under the other (Figure 4.6.1). Over millions of years, the Pacific Plate has moved over the hot spot, creating a chain of volcanic islands.Modified from "Physical Geology" by Steven Earle*Ĭonvergent boundaries, where two plates are moving toward each other, are of three types, depending on the type of crust present on either side of the boundary - oceanic or continental. The Hawai’ian hot spot causes magma to rise and erupt as lava on the ocean floor. The Hawai’ian Islands are a chain of volcanoes in the middle of the Pacific Plate, which have formed due to the presence of a hot spot. Heat from the mantle plume causes melting and thinning of the crust, which leads to volcanic activity at the surface. It is also referred to as hot spot or intraplate volcanism. This may happen in areas that are distant from plate boundaries. Volcanoes can also form above a column of superheated magma called a mantle plume. Here, the pushing together of two continental plates results in the mountain forming processes that shaped, for example, the Alps and Himalayas. Note: There is a third setting of destructive boundary: continent-continent. It is this process that allows the generation of magma at depth that feeds volcanoes that are formed at the surface. Water has the effect of reducing the melting temperature of the mantle by about 60–100☌. As the subducted oceanic plate sinks and heats up, water is gradually released from the sediments and minerals within the plate ‘slab’. Subduction provides a mechanism for introducing water-bearing sediments into the mantle. This illustration shows ocean-continent subduction. Volcanoes can form at subduction zones where tectonic plates are moving towards each other and one plate descends beneath the other. The majority of volcanism in Iceland occurs along volcanic rift zones that cut through the centre of the island. Some are extinct, but over 30 are still active. The island is covered with more than 100 volcanoes. As the plates pull apart, molten rock (magma) rises up and erupts as lava, creating new ocean crust. Iceland lies on the Mid Atlantic Ridge, a constructive plate boundary, where the North American and Eurasian plates are moving away from each other. ![]() ![]() Volcanoes can sometimes form in these setting one example is Iceland. The Earth’s crust is pulled apart to create a new pathway for rising hot magma to flow on to the surface. Read more Constructive plate boundary volcanoesĪt constructive plate boundaries, the tectonic plates are moving away from one another. It erupts from vents, sometimes as lava, but usually the magma becomes solid within the volcanic vent, giving much more explosive eruptions.Īuthor Chris King, reproduced with the author’s permission from Exploring Geoscience Across The Globe. The eruption of intermediate and silicon-rich magma is very different. Rivers of lava can flow over the ground or move more slowly as blocky masses bulldozing along. When runny basaltic magma erupts as lava, it pours out of the ground along long surface cracks or through volcanic vents and may be sprayed into the air as spectacular lava fountains. So in summary, iron/magnesium-rich basaltic magmas are free-flowing with low viscosity, while intermediate and silicon-rich magmas are very sticky with high viscosity. When magmas contain a lot of gas this makes them more runny too, although basaltic magmas usually do not contain much gas. Basaltic magmas also tend to contain few crystals, increasing their runniness. Basaltic magmas are also usually the hottest and the hotter the magma is the less viscous it is as well. The balance between iron/magnesium and silicon composition changes the runniness: iron/magnesium-rich basaltic magmas are the most runny (low viscosity) at one end of the scale and silicon-rich are the least runny (highly viscous) at the other end.
